May 8, 2008: TOOWOOMBA’s deputy mayor says all ways to provide a water supply for the area should be considered.

Councillor PAUL ANTONIO is one of four TRC councillors who met with gas producers ARROW ENERGY to discuss supplying the region with waste water from the company’s gas fields.

Councillor ANTONIO says this project needs substantial support from the STATE and FEDERAL Governments.

He says someone must take responsibility to ensure that the salty water by-product from gas is not a wasted resource.

“We live in an environment where water is absolutely critical. Water will be more costly in the future and we need to make absolutely sure that we don’t just put aside any opportunity for a new source of water.”

Snow Manners

Snow Manners was elected to the Toowoomba City Council in a by-election in 2006. He holds a Bachelor of Economics and is an Associate of the Australian Property Institute. He says his goal for the Toowoomba Regional Council area is to make sure the small communities aren’t neglected as a result of the amalgamation.

Ian Jones

Ian Jones was born and bred in Clifton. He has served as the Mayor of Clifton Shire and Chair of the Darling Downs Region of Councils. He says the biggest issue for the Toowoomba Regional Council will be to administer the amalgamated area so it provides services to the community that the community expects.

Peter Taylor

    Peter Taylor has lived and worked on the Downs for 30 years. He was the Mayor of Jondaryan Shire and a director of the Queensland Local Government Association. He says ensuring the successful integration of the eight councils will be the biggest issue facing the Toowoomba Regional Council and its community.

Tony Bourke, a pharmacist, is a former Mayor of Toowoomba and member of state parliament. He says the most important issue is to give every community and individuals in the region a sense of belonging.
